I didn’t think I’d even write about him, but as I was jogging today, and this song came up on my ipod…
And when I started to get a little teary, I knew I had to say a little piece.
Now, I’m not the biggest Macho Man fan out there…. I’m sure several other people are more worthy of that title than me. And shoot, I’m not even sure if I would call him my number one favorite wrestler.
But damn, he was one of my heroes.
Maybe it’s because I come from a single parent home, I find myself latching onto a lot of male figures in my life easily. Or maybe that’s just a bunch big talk gobblety gook haha.
It’s a bit surreal to find out one of your heroes is … dead. Unlike a character from a story or a comic, Randy Savage was a real person, and people come and go.
Macho Man isn’t the first wrestler to have passed away. I remember when I saw news about Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit (which turned out to be even more tragic). But when I heard about this news, it definitely stung the most.
He’s given me lots of great memories with my friends, and he’s given a lot for me to look up to. I’ve applied some these things into my classes, and I’ll be applying a lot more in this upcoming year.
Look, I’m not even going to deny that clip is anything short of ridiculous- but that’s what makes him so great!
He has a presence. He has that voice, which is so unmistakably him. Bold. Loud. Hell, even his catch phrase, “Oooh Yeah!” is the epitome of positive.
Never afraid to stand out… that’s what you call outstanding. Rest in peace, Macho Man.
